Boundaries

Boundaries are personal rules governing reasonable, safe and permissible behaviour. Sometimes clients need to reset, restore or remove their personal boundaries in order to make positive changes in their lives. They are built from a combination of past experience, beliefs, opinions, perceptions, attitudes, cultural influences and social norms. Personal boundaries help to define us by outlining our likes and dislikes, and setting the distances we allow others to approach. They include both physical and psychological boundaries and operate in two directions, affecting both our incoming (protection) and outgoing (containment) interactions.
